Here, you'll learn how to use the mini-HUD to begin customizing swooplet-enabled products through the web interface.
In a nutshell: Click start, then follow the generated link. Click strop when you are done customizing, or leave it since it will self-expire.
Purpose
The mini-HUD generates a unique, secure, self-expiring private link to establish communication with swooplet-enabled devices owned by the avatar using it.
Advantages
This design eliminates the need for user registration. It functions like temporary password generation but avoids the overhead of maintaining in-world servers or bots.
How it gets delivered
Creators include /swooplet/ mini-HUD v2 into their product packages, making it appear in the inventory alongside their items.
Version 1
The v1 of the mini-HUD will still work! The original design required the owner to click the HUD for a dialog-based interaction.
Version 2
The new version features a status bar, buttons to instantly create or delete the secure private link, and built-in QR code generation.
Further Simplifications
Starting with v2, swooplet mini-HUD has a unified name and look for all affiliated stores and that:
Makes the mini-HUD look the same for all creators.
Allows to configure all swooplet-enabled products on one web page.
Clearer communicates that a single instance of the mini-HUD may be kept in the inventory.
In v2, the system now automatically sets a 3-hour expiry, removing the previously available choice between 1 or 3 hours.
Step 1: Generate the link
Clicking start generates a unique, secure private link to the swooplet web application.
The link self-expires in 3 hours if left unattended.
Step 2: Visit the link
When the secure link generation is successful, a dialog pops up that displays the link. The link leads to the web application where all swooplet-enabled products owned and currently worn by the user can be customized.
Options for opening the link
Left-clicking opens it in the default system browser (according to the default Web Browser setting).
Right-clicking provides options such as Copy URL and Open in Internal Browser.
Built-in QR Code generation allows you to skip clicking the link and open it directly on a mobile device.
Why dialog?
Chat messages are easy to miss. Additionally, the Viewer can replace the dialog UI element on screen with a new instance (with the default Script Dialogs per Object setting). This helps present an updated state without spamming the chat.
Bringing closed dialog back
After closing, the dialog can be brought back by clicking on the status bar.
Demonstration
What does it look like when the link is opened? A store that uses swooplet kindly provides this demonstration to showcase the latest capabilities of swooplet.
Step 3: Deactivate the link
Clicking stop will instantly deactivate the previously created link.
The stop action cannot be undone, so if the deactivated web link is still open anywhere, modifications will have no effect.
Dialog popup
A dialog will popup notifying of the current status. This helps to substitute previously shown dialog (with the default Script Dialogs per Object setting) in case it was still open.
Unfortunately, Second Life® scripts can't determine if the dialog is still open or has been closed to choose an appropriate action.
Status Bar
Clicking the status bar brings back the dialog that shows the current status of the private secure link.
The status will automatically change to idle after the link self-expires.
QR Code
Built-in QR Code renderer can be used to grab the secure link right off the 3D world viewport with a mobile device. The button toggles the QR Code window on and off.
